Why use Drawings in Organization Development Initiatives?
In projects to improve teamwork, foster collaboration between teams or increase leadership effectiveness, we often leverage the power of drawings. Its power resides in its capacity to provide a simple expression for complex feelings and ideas in organizational live. They offer an enormous amount of rich data about conscious and unconscious experiences that people have in organizations. Moreover, research shows that the brain is able to both store and give expression to far more complex data in visual form, such as pictures, than it can do verbally.
How to get started?
Instructions are simple. Participants create a drawing of themselves, the team, or collaboration between teams based on their gut feelings, without using words or thinking too hard about it. It’s important to remind them that it’s not about artistic talent. Most people laugh a little when they start drawing. But later, as we explore the information contained in it, they are often surprised to start discovering interesting human dynamics.
